Research Highlights:
Margulis laboratory utilizes nanotechnology and advanced mass spectrometry imaging to develop novel therapies and unique drug-delivery approaches. Through nanotechnology, we aim to enhance the effectiveness and specificity of pharmaceuticals by improving their bioavailability and bioactivity while also targeting specific organs. Mass spectrometry imaging allows us to explore how drugs interact with target tissues, investigate disease processes, and uncover novel therapeutic targets. We also design targeted delivery systems for topical drugs and cosmetic ingredients and use imaging techniques to visualize their permeation and distribution across skin layers. In addition, we employ nose-to-brain delivery to target the brain therapeutically, coupled with real-time monitoring of drug distribution and neurotransmitter dynamics by mass spectrometry imaging. Our work has attracted strong interest from both the pharmaceutical and cosmetics industries.
