Research Highlights: (5 to 6 sentences)
Our group explores factors that affect patient response to medications, with a focus on drugs used to treat epilepsy. The research is in the interface between clinical pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences, combining studies in human blood and tissue samples (e.g., brain tissues and placentas), cell lines, databases, and computational medicine. The topics explored include the effects of medications on the blood-brain barrier and the placenta, drug accumulation in subcellular components, and drug-drug interactions. In recent years, we have been harnessing the microgravity of space using a specialized simulator to modulate cell function on Earth. Our ultimate goal is to improve patient care and reduced variability in response to medications.
