Research Highlights:

Our group explores factors that affect patient response to medications, with a focus on drugs used to treat epilepsy. We are situated in the interface between clinical pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences, bridging studies in human blood and tissue samples (e.g., brain tissues and placentas), cell lines, medical databases, and computational medicine. The topics explored include the effects of medications on the blood-brain barrier and the placenta, drug accumulation in subcellular components, and drug-drug interactions. In recent years, we have been researching how the microgravity of space using a specialized simulator affects cell function on Earth. Our ultimate goal is to improve patient care and reduce variability in response to medications.
