Research Highlights:

The Tam Laboratory specializes in exploring the endocannabinoid system (ECS) and its role in metabolic diseases, with a focus on drug development and translational research. Key achievements include developing peripherally restricted CB1 receptor antagonists which show therapeutic potential in obesity, fatty liver disease, acute and chronic kidney diseases, diabetes, and dyslipidemia. The laboratory integrates multiple state-of-the-art approaches, leveraging expertise in pharmacology, endocrinology, biochemistry, molecular and cellular biology, as well as high-throughput ‘omics analyses and in vivo metabolism. With a multidisciplinary team, the lab bridges basic science and clinical applications, driving innovation in ECS-related therapies. Our efforts are further supported by strong ties with industry, facilitating the licensing and commercialization of novel drug candidates. Through these endeavors, the Tam Laboratory addresses significant global health challenges with impactful, translational research.
